Hapoel Tel Aviv B.C
Founded in 2007 by HaPoel Tel Aviv fans, the Hapoel Ussishkin Tel Aviv Association owns 85% of the HaPoel Tel Aviv Senior Basketball Team and wholly owns the Club’s Youth Department. Since its founding, the Association has made a name for itself with the team’s supporters setting an example by taking responsibility for their team, and showing that it is possible to change the management culture of the sport in Israel.
The club
The Hapoel Tel Aviv Basketball Club is one of the most illustrious clubs in Israeli basketball. Since its founding in 1935, the club has won the Israel Championship five times, and the State Cup four times - the greatest number of titles won by a single team in Israel, apart from its city rival.
At the beginning of the noughties, the club was in decline due to poor management by the then owners; on top of that came a decision by the Tel Aviv Municipality to demolish the mythological home arena of the Ussishkin Club.
The team’s supporters understood that it was only they who had the power to bring about change. Driven by a sense of responsibility for the fate of their team, the supporters set up the club anew under the name “Hapoel Ussishkin”, and registered their team in Liga Beth (fifth tier). From there, the team began to climb its way back, and within five years, had risen four tiers, returning to its natural place in the Premier league.
The Association
The Hapoel Ussishkin Tel Aviv Association has over 1,850 members who take an active part in the decision-making process and who select the Association's Board in democratic elections every two years.
