Maccabi Tel Aviv Weightlifting
Maccabi Tel Aviv Weightlifting is named after David Berger (one of the victims of the Munich Olympics Massacre).
Founded in 1965, the Maccabi Tel Aviv Weightlifting Division changed the monotonous nature of this sport in Israel overnight. The team was notable for focusing on working effectively and correctly, and forging a team spirit.
In 1967 the team won the State Championship for the first time, and has led the sport in terms of achievements and innovation ever since.
In 1970 David Berger joined the team; he was murdered along with other members of the Olympic delegation to the Munich Games in 1972.
In 1984, Meir Daloya represented Israel at the Los-Angeles Olympic Games, taking ninth place, and in Barcelona 1992, Andrei Denisov came in sixth.
