Israel Table Tennis Association
Table tennis is one of the most elegant and most intelligent ball games that exist. Almost every child has tried the game and knows its rules. Table tennis originated in England towards the end of the 19th century, and showcased as an Olympic sport at the Seoul Games in 1988.
Table tennis has the image of being an easy game, also known as “ping-pong”, and is regarded as a game in which you hit a small ball until somebody misses.
But the truth is that table tennis is a very fast game that requires effort, physical fitness, lots of practice and systematic and professional training in order to become really good at it. The game demands high concentration, quick thinking and polishing and continuous improvement of technique. The game is very popular in Asia and Europe
As someone who lives and breathes tennis since age of nine, I am proud to have been elected head of the Israel Tennis Association. The responsibility that comes with the role of Chairman and my unwavering love for the sport inspire me to believe that together, shoulder to shoulder with veteran and experienced people from the tennis world, we can take the sport to new heights and position, brand and market it on the same level as the global tennis powers.
Israeli tennis has come along way, with many high points, in recent decades. Starting with the entry of Israeli tennis players into the world's top 100, and culminating in the groundbreaking achievements of generations of Israel National Teams. The fruits of these historic moments, and those that still await us, can only be reaped thanks to you - the players and coaches who produce and maintain tennis as one of the greatest, most prominent and most outstanding sports in Israel.
As someone who is active in the business sector, I plan to make every effort in the next three years to increase the resources at the Association’s disposal; because I am keenly aware that it is a combination of the right resources and the passion of the players and coaches that provide the recipe for success.
During the current term, we will bring more international tournaments to Israel, and we will increase the size of the prizes awarded. We will continue to support the young generation and the activities of the masters, we will build more and varied surfaces essential for the development of the players, and we will increase the number of those actively participating in the sport.
To the young generation among you - let me tell you that tennis’s contribution to your lives is huge, far greater than you can imagine. For me, the tools, values, competitiveness and the ability to cope under pressure have largely shaped my personality, and led also to my success in life and in business. If you are able to transfer the tools given you in tennis into your lives outside the court, you will become better and more effective people, and the sky will be your limit.
There is still a long way to go, but if we look firmly ahead, and persevere in pursuit of our goal, I have no doubt that our success is simply a matter of time.
Yours truly
Asi Tuchmair
